My discipline and area of expertise is in psychology, with areas of emphasis/expertise including clinical psychology, traumatic stress studies, grief studies, and developmental psychopathology. Specific research interests include (a) Assessment of trauma exposure and grief reactions, (b) conceptualization and treatment of traumatic distress and traumatic bereavement, (c) longitudinal analysis of the long-term effects of war and other disasters/trauma on adolescents and their families, (d) acute post-disaster mental health intervention, (e) models of adolescent resilience and vulnerability following trauma, traumatic loss, and disaster, (f) social support in adolescence, (g) coping in the aftermath of traumatic stress, traumatic loss, and disaster, (h) effects of parent/adolescent relationships in mitigating or exacerbating post-disaster stress and adversities. Last, there is a very broad international aspect to my work, which spans all countries engaged in war or civil conflict or which have experienced large-scale natural or technological disasters. Most recenty, this spans all countries along the Indian Rim which were exposed to the tsunami. Given that my data were collected in Bosnia and Hercegovina and in Slovenia, I am entering countries from the former and present Yugoslavia as the most relevant.
