Biography

My wife, Kelli, and I are both graduates of BYU ('05). We are the parents of 4 wonderful boys from ages 18 to 11. We also have a shnoodle named Boba Fetch.

I love to cook and have an Instagram (@eshmurv) dedicated to my Sunday meals where I try to be #ChefEconomist. We apply the baseball rule, if over .300 of our children like a meal, it's a great meal.

I am dedicated to #BuildingBetterStudents. Much of my social media presence is about sharing ideas on how to help students achieve their academic, career, and personal goals.

Research Interests

My research focus is on the economics of education, behavioral economics, and sports economics. My current projects examine the efficacy of informational nudges focused on the net cost of college and the impact that higher education had in the early 20th century. I also have a project that examines the effectiveness of online proctored exams and looks into the many different ways that students might engage in academic dishonesty.

Teaching Interests

I have taught a wide array of courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level. In the past 10 years I have developed quantitative courses for upper division business and economics students. One course focused on Quantitative Methods for business students and I developed a textbook and YouTube channel for that course (http://www.youtube.com/@quantmethods). I also taught General Education courses: Principles of Microeconomics and US Economic History.
This year at BYU, I will be focused on teaching Statistics for Economists and Intermediate Microeconomics II.
