Susan Rugh

Susan S. Rugh is professor of history and dean of Undergraduate Education at BYU. She is the author of two scholarly books: Our Common Country: Family Farming, Culture, and Community in the Nineteenth-Century Midwest (2001) and Are We There Yet? The Golden Age of American Family Vacations (2008). She has published numerous articles on tourism in the US. West, including the award-winning “Branding Utah: Industrial Tourism in the Postwar American West,” Western Historical Quarterly (Winter 2006). Her current work is on the invention of the motel, and how it changed from a family-friendly destination to an American crime scene. She is a member of the editorial boards of History of Tourism and BYU Studies.
